On the eleventh of July, a group of 28 from Missouri arrived to serve alongside us for a few days. Saturday morning, the plan for the following days was shared with the group and the work began. The team spent Saturday at Iglesia Bautista Horeb (Horeb Baptist Church) painting the inside, clearing out the land in the neighboring lots and inviting people in the community to an event to be held the next day. It was a very busy and productive day.
Sunday we attended church at Horeb in the morning and then began our preparations there for the event that would begin at three o’clock. At the event, Pastor Jonatan and his brother, David, shared the gospel with the people. As the people visited the two rooms where the gospel was being shared, they received tickets, which allowed them to get food, a bag of rice and beans, and be entered into a raffle. Along with these activities, the team helped with carnival type games, making popcorn and snow cones, and painting faces and nails. Some of the team also shared their testimony. Members of Horeb helped with the tickets, the raffle, sharing on stage, the welcome tent, and the prayer tent. Some of these members began their relationship with Christ or came to know about the church during Harvest Fest that was held in November of last year. It was great that they could now share with others what Christ was doing in their lives. Through this event, twenty people made the decision to accept Christ!! It was a wonderful day.
On Monday, the team spent the day at the orphanage making and pouring concrete, painting school desks, and helping with VBS preparations. The team worked very hard and accomplished a lot. After working for most of the day, they took some time to hang out with the kids and play with water balloons to cool off. Since the concrete was still not finished, the majority of the guys chose to return on Tuesday to work on it some more while the rest spent some time at Progreso.
This team was such a blessing and encouragement because of their hard work and desire to serve and love on the people.
We greatly appreciate Springhill Baptist Church and their service in Reynosa!
